Transport

Use your car as efficiently as possible

Fuel efficient driving cuts costs and reduces wear and tear on your car. If you need a new vehicle, compare their carbon emissions. Take a look at a electric cars, they are fast becoming a practical alternative. Cut down on car use - plan your journeys and try car sharing or a car club.

Cycle

Try cycling for short journeys instead of using a car. See if you are eligible for a tax free bike for work through the Government's Green Transport Initiative. Give our Towers and Spires cycling tours a go. Visit the Sustrans site for more.

Reduce the number of plane trips

Try not to use a plane for journeys under 1000km.

Walk children to school

Encourage them to cycle or take the school bus. Try organising a walking bus for other children in your community. Follow the link to find out more.

Telecommute

Don't drive to the office, or fly to that conference, if you can arrange to complete your presentation electronically, or via video conferencing. Follow the link to find out more.

Public Transport

Plan your trip. Obtain timetable and route-maps for your journey. Try the free online databases that will take your starting point and destination and calculate the best route for you.

Encourage change. If you don't use public transport in your area because the service doesn't work for you, then get it changed. Write letters to your local newspaper and MP, comment on the online stories that address travel, join a public transport advocacy group, and meet with your local government representative.
