Government incentives

The Renewables Obligation (RO) has been in operation since 2002 and is the primary mechanism to incentivise large-scale renewable electricity generation.

This works alongside the Feed-in Tariffs (FiTs) which are designed to encourage small scale low carbon electricity generation. For the latest changes to the FiTs click here.

And the Renewable Heat Incentive (RHI) which aims to increase generation of heat from renewable sources at all scales with annual payments when you replace fossil fuel systems with renewable technology.

The Government also plan to launch the Green Deal at the end of 2012. This aims to reduce carbon emissions by encouraging the wide spread upgrading of domestic and non-domestic properties to increase energy efficiency.
