Join us on pilgrimage
Today the Pilgrimage2Paris website is officially launched and we are very excited about the coming months!
The launch of the Lambeth Declaration on Climate Change was signed by the Archbishops of Canterbury and York and many other faith leaders from across the UK, as well as Pope Francis’ landmark encyclical Laudato Sì.
We’ve been present at the Church of England General Synod, where there was a whole day of environmental debate and a host of bishops had their photo taken with the Pilgrimage2Paris yew baton to show their support for the pilgrimage, which will start in London on Friday 13 November and arrive in Paris on Friday 27 November.
At the National Justice & Peace conference we met lots of people who expressed an interest in participating in the pilgrimage, as well as a group planning to cycle to Paris!
It’s a great year to become a pilgrim for climate justice.
At the end of November, world leaders from 190 countries will gather for the UN climate talks in Paris, where they will discuss a new global agreement on climate change aimed at limiting greenhouse gas emissions from 2020, when current commitments run out.
With our friends at Christian Aid, CAFOD and Tearfund, as well as a large number of other organisations who are supporting and will participate in the Pilgrimage2Paris, we are calling on world leaders to agree to a fair, ambitious and legally binding climate change deal.
We’ll be walking in solidarity with those most affected by the impacts of climate change – the poorest and most vulnerable communities around the world. We’ll be doing it with courage, determination and hope for a better future.
We hope that many people of faith will come on the pilgrimage, whether for the whole distance from London to Paris or for part of the journey. For those who are not able to join us, there will be the opportunity to get involved by organising a mini-pilgrimage or event locally or using the prayer resources that are produced for the pilgrimage.
