Angels and Pinnacles

Angels & Pinnacles is a unique community project based on six major 'hub churches' in the Diocese of St Edmundsbury and Ipswich.

These hubs include six of Suffolk’s most iconic churches - all Grade I listed - Framlingham, Southwold, Eye, Woolpit, Clare and Mildenhall. They act as hosts for community events and form clusters with other churches in the vicinity.

Project achievements to date include:

  • Over 20 church volunteers have achieved nationally-recognised accreditation to help them engage with visitors and inspire new audiences
  • More than 200 primary school children from seven schools have undertaken art workshops inspired by Suffolk’s medieval church heritage.
  • 160 older people have participated in photography workshops based on the amazing architecture and heritage of the six Angels & Pinnacles hub churches.

The Heritage Lottery Fund gave £40,000 to fund the project with the remainder coming from the Lord Belstead Charitable Trust, the Scarfe Charitable Trust and Suffolk County Council.
