CHURCH AWARD IN FIGHT AGAINST METAL THEFT

Matthew Cooper was awarded the Exceptional Rural Initiative prize at the National Metal Theft Taskforce awards.

Mr Cooper won his award for work in the Diocese of Lincoln where his support for an investigation into the theft of lead from church roofs resulted in the conviction of all the members of an organised crimnal gang. ChurchCare congratulates Matthew on this award. The introduction of the new Scrap Metal Dealers Act, the work of the police coordinated by the National Metal Theft Taskforce and vigilance by individual churches has seen a reduction in this crime. Sentences that reflect the severity of the crime are a further deterrent. To this end ChurchCare will be responding to the consultation on new sentencing guidelines that is open until 26 June.
